Big Draw events

As part of her work with Set of Drawers, Josie has planned and coordinated numerous 'Big Draw' events.  They are one day drop in events set up in different locations across the region, designed for children and their families to get creative on a big scale.  The Drawers have set up spaces where walls, windows, floors and furniture can be doodled and coloured in, alongside print and crafting workshops.

Hotspur Primary 6ft Textile mural

Josie worked  with the Year 4 pupils at Hotspur Primary School to produce a 6x2m wall hanging for their school dining room, inspired by their surrounding environment - the Ouseburn valley of Newcastle. The textile mural was based on a map of the local landmarks surrounding the river and featured work created by the children in their sessions with Josie and fellow artists Hannah Shaw and Jane Smallcombe.

The children had the opportunity to experiment with textiles and print techniques including relief print, screen print, appliqué, fabric collage and hand sewing to create their eclectic, colourful mural.

Ovingham Primary 'Creating Characters' animations

Working with each year group from year 1 to year 5 over the course of one day the children created larger than life colourful characters with Josie in fast paced sessions out of recycled objects, card and materials.

The children then helped photograph their characters, adding movement to their body parts to create a series of gif animations.
