Working with young people
Below are a selection of groups and projects Josie has worked with in her role as an arts facilitator with young people.
Northumberland Youth Service
Covering a wide range of social issues, Josie delivers workshops designed to enable the young people to conceptualise and create campaigns on specific topics important to them. Projects have included promotional campaigns including sexual health, LGBT, drugs misuse, Law, Child sexual Exploitation and more.
Through these projects the young people Josie and the NYS youth team work together to design and create leaflets/posters/cards/cookery books/comics/social media material to be distributed across Northumberland within schools and other community settings.
Youth Offending Team - Bensham
Josie has worked within an arts programme for young people in the youth Offenders service, leading creative workshops designed to engage the young people and teach them new creative skills.
Sessions included ink-based illustration techniques, textile collage, cultural maps and creative recycling (using old Beanos to make bowls!)
Youth Homeless North East/Helix Arts
Josie worked with Helix Arts and Youth Homeless North East as the Visual artist alongside the incredible poet Kate Fox (check her out!) on a project called 'Home and a Job'. The project delivered creative writing and visual arts sessions with young homeless people to capture their thoughts on the impact of welfare reform on their lives and provide a platform to voice their thoughts and struggles.
They worked with groups in Stockton-on-Tees, Sunderland, Newcastle upon Tyne and Hexham and they created some poignant, funny and thought provoking work, which formed the basis of a touring exhibition and accompanying booklet.
